Actually, first class seats are similar to KE's, not LH's.![]()
I think these seats' design are adequate for THAI. The airlines you mentioned cater some of the world's most important business routes, such as SIN-LHR, DXB-LHR, LHR-JFK, HKG-JFK and so on. THAI, apart from some kangaroo routes, does not have something like that. Adding too many decorations also adds significant weight to the aircraft which in turn, affects cargo load and increases fuel burn.
If you look closely, EK's biz layout are different from NH's. In NH's BC cabin, no seats are next to each other. Other airlines that also utilizes this layout are, for example, LX and AY. While in EK's, there are middle pair seats. Other airlines that are also using this layout (as far as I know) are HU and EY, even though the seat model are not exactly the same.
For Y+ cabin, I think THAI does not need that. IMHO, THAI's passenger who has enough money or mileage will choose BC right away. Moreover, adding Y+ will affect Y class capacity, which is one of THAI's strongest points.
And please, please do not use the word "copy", because THAI are not copying anyone's "staggered" BC layout. If you said that, for the "herringbone" layout, DL would have copied AC's, CX would have copied DL's and 9W would have copied CX's.![]()
Though I prefer the reverse herringbone pattern like on CX's new BC and US's A332, I find this design very comfortable too.
Good observations and analysis on your part. Even though I am Thai, I've been living abroad for too long to know the "needs" and "wants" of THAI's target customers. And I hardly fly THAI - I only redeem my miles for Thai's biz and first seats, but when I buy, my business goes to CX, EK, SQ, and even UA. You are absolutely right about the slight difference between NH and EK's biz layout. I noticed that once and totally forgot about it. I don't know what I'd prefer really. Perhaps I would prefer EK when I'm traveling with a companion and NH when going solo.
If you say that THAI's Y is their strongest point (which I agree to a certain degree), then tell me, why are they choosing to reduce the pitch down to 32"?
CX's new Biz is really nice. Much better than the current "coffin" seats!
You are right again about using the word "copy" (I didn't mean it literally), those designs are trademarked or patented
