บทนำ


บทวิจารณ์นี้เขียนขึ้นเป็นครั้งแรก และแม้ผมอาจจะมีโอกาสเดินทางบ้างทุกปี แต่ก็เป็นไปในวาระที่มีงานด้านวิชาการ หรือ ธุระในสายวิชาชีพที่ไม่เกี่ยวข้องกับธุรกิจการท่องเที่ยวและการเดินทาง จึงต้องขออภัยเพื่อนๆ ผู้อ่าน ณ ที่นี้ หากบทวิจารณ์ของผมยังขาดความรู้และประสบการณ์จำเพาะ โดยเฉพาะเมื่อเทียบกับเพื่อนๆ พี่ๆ ที่อยู่ในวงการการท่องเที่ยวและการเดินทางที่มีโอกาสเดินทางบ่อยด้วยความชำนาญ

Towards the Suvarnabhumi airport. This is a long trip to followed by a long stay in Paris otherwise I would be inclined to try the newly launched Airport Link service.

Royal First passengers may park at Entrance no. 1 and be greeted by well dressed bellboys who diligently deliver the luggage to the check-in counter.

Instead of hurrying in without looking back, the bellboy paused his pace when I stopped to take photos. Nice impression right from the front door.

A enchanting sight at the golden pavilion welcomes passengers right from the terminal entrance.


การตกแต่งสวยๆภายในครับ มีศาลาสีทองดูสง่างามเชียวเป็นการต้อนรับที่ดูดีตั้งแต่ก้าวแรกที่เดินเข้าอาคารสนามบิน

Obviously not understaffed, but the Sunday morning saw light traffic of departing passengers.

การบินไทยมีพนักงานให้บริการผู้โดยสารมากพอเลยครับ แต่เช้าวันอาทิตย์นั้นดูคนเดินทางไม่มาก

The pavilion served multiple purposes, indeed apart from compartmentalizing the arrival zone from the inner immigration area, the decoration served as a convenient place for group farewell photo.


ศาลาที่ว่านี่เป็นศาลาอเนกประสงค์จริงๆครับ คือใช้แบ่งสัดส่วนของห้องโถงออกจากส่วนตรวจเข้าออกเมือง แล้วก็ยังเป็นที่ถ่ายรูปร่ำลาที่ดีด้วย

Despite the total luggage weight being almost 20 kilograms over the limit (a Royal First passenger to Paris is allowed to check in 40 kilograms, and extra 20 kilograms is complimented with Star Alliance Gold privilege), the lady at the check-in counter's first reaction was to smile, and without any question or discouraging facial expression, called her supervisor in an attempt to accommodate my travel.

That's the Touch of THAI.

สัมภาระของผมน้ำหนักเกินไป 20 กิโลครับ (ผู้โดยสารชั้นหนึ่งมีสิทธิอยู่40กิโล และผมได้รับสิทธิพิเศษจาก Royal Orchid Plus Gold อีก20กิโลกรัมแล้ว แต่ก็ยังไม่พอครับ ยังมีเกินมาอีก) พนักงานเช็คอินเพียงแค่ยิ้มหวานให้ ไม่ได้กระมิดกระเมี้ยน หรือชักสีหน้าไม่ดีอะไรแลยครับ แต่กลับรีบโทรหา supervisor ขอเพิ่มน้ำหรักกระเป๋าให้ผม คือพยายามช่วยอย่างดีที่สุดครับ

นี่ละครับ สัมผัสบริการดีๆ จากการบินไทย

However the check in lady informed me that the French airport seems to be quite strict (even their national soccer team protests, so not surprise!), and after her sincere apologies not at all owed to me, I was allowed extra 10 kilograms to check in (thus the luggage became 70 kilograms), and was provided an extra luggage box to carry the other 8 kilograms on-board, with assistance delivery service from the counter to the seat. Again, that's the Touch of THAI. The total weight of checked-in and carry-on pieces should be nearly 100 kilograms, if not more. Travel light is travel light, I certify, but this working trip to Paris will last at least 6 months, and the profession calls for fully loaded weapons (e.g. books) for the upcoming legal battles. แต่เจ้าหน้าที่หญิงท่านนั้นแจ้งว่าทางสนามบินที่ฝรั่งเศสจะเข้มงวดมาก (แม้แต่ทีมฟุตบอลฝรั่งเศสเองยังประท้วงคิดดูแล้วกันครับ) ทางเขาก็ขออภัยมาเป็นอย่างดี ที่ทางการบินไทยทำได้คือให้น้ำหนักchecked luggage เพิ่มเป็น 70 กิโลกรัมแล้วให้กล่องสัมภาระให้ผมนำขึ้นเครื่องได้อีก 8 กิโลกรัมซึ่งมีบริการส่งให้ผมจนถึงที่นั่งครับ นี่แหละ สัมผัสประทับใจจากการบินไทยที่ผมต้องชมเชยอีกครั้ง สัมภาระของผมทั้งหมด รวมแล้วเกือบ100กิโลกรัมทีเดียวครับ ดีไม่ดีจะเกินด้วยซ้ำ ปกติผมก็ไม่ได้ขนขนาดนี้หรอกนะครับ แต่คราวนี้ผมไปยาว อย่างน้อย 6 เดือนและไปทำงานที่จะต้องมีการเกี่ยวข้องกับตำรับตำรา หนังสือหนังหาก็เลยจำเป็นต้องขนไปสู้คดีเต็มอัตราศึก

The Royal First lounge is divided into to two main wings, accompanied by a dining counter, a sit-down dining room, a reading corner and a working area.

The left wing is where we find private rooms with sofa sets that is B&O (Bang & Olufsen) equipped, although the connected terminal hall outside can be noisy. The right wing offers more open space and window view, though less private.

Royal First Lounge โดยหลักแบ่งเป็นสองฝั่ง นอกจากนั้นก็มีส่วนเคาน์เตอร์อาหารห้องอาหารเป็นเรื่องเป็นราว มุมอ่านหนังสือและมุมทำงาน

ปีกฝั่งซ้ายจะมีห้องส่วนตัวพร้อมลำโพงของ B&O (Bang &Olufsen) แต่เสียดายไปติดกับห้องโถงข้างนอกออกจะเสียงดังไปนิดหน่อย ในขณะที่่ปีกฝั่งขวาจะเป็นที่โล่งและมีวิวหน้าต่าง แต่จะเป็นส่วนตัวน้อยกว่านิดนึง

The private room came with a B&O , although the UBC signal was a regular one and not the so-called HD.

Given the regular signal quality, Beovision 7 serves more as an art object than a TV I would say.

One urgent improvement is however needed. The top LCD part of the remote control was badly damaged. Given its extra heavy character (which added a luxurious sense to some) one can easily imagine this being used as a weapon.

Instead of investing in Beovision 7, first class listeners might be more tempted to try Beolab 5, and in any case a good audio source is much easier to cater.


ห้องพักส่วนตัวมาพร้อมกับทีวี Beovision 7 แต่เมื่อสัญญาณ UBC เป็นแบบธรรมดา ไม่ใช่ืที่บอกว่าเป็นสัญญาณ HD ทีวีเลยทำหน้าที่เป็นของประดับไปเสียมากกว่า แต่รีโมทซึ่งหนักพอเป็นอาวุธได้ จอแตกนะครับ ควรซ่อมด่วน

ผมว่าบางที แทนที่จะลงทุนกับ Beovision 7 หากมีห้องฟังดนตรี ตั้ง Beolab 5 สักตัวก็คงไม่เลวเลย แหล่งเสียงดีๆ นั้นจัดได้ง่ายกว่าอยู่แล้ว

Sandwiches were available with a variety of fresh topping ingredients. I first asked for a glass of orange juice and to my pleasant surprise the waitress replied that there was none, because the seasonable grade juice orange was not available at the moment. Guava juice among others was however available, but unnatural sweetness raised some suspicions.


มีแซนด์วิชเสิร์ฟสารพัดไส้ครับ สด ใหม่ตลอดเวลา ตอนแรกผมขอน้ำส้มแก้วนึงแต่พนักงานแจ้งว่าไม่มีครับ น่าแปลกใจแต่ฟังดูดีครับ เพราะเหตุผลคือส้มเกรดดีที่จะนำมาคั้นให้ดีได้นั้นไม่อยู่ในฤดดูกาลตอนนี้

ที่เลาจน์มีน้ำฝรั่งสดให้แทนแต่ผมว่ามันหวานเกินธรรมชาติไปหน่อยนะครับ

Grilled by the order was club sandwich. And there grilled on CNN, is Bill Clinton's humanitarian club overshadowing the works of the United Nations, Wolf Blitzer asked.

คลับแซนด์วิช ทำร้อนๆ มาให้ตามสั่งครับ ส่วนในจอก็เป็นคำถามร้อนๆ โดยนาย Wolf Blitzer นักข่าว CNN ถึงอดีตประธานาธิปดี Bill Clinton ว่ากิจกรรมคลับคนรวยที่บริจาคให้มูลนิธิด้านมนุษยธรรมของ Clinton นั้น กำลังโดดเด่นไปยิ่งกว่าภารกิจของบรรดารัฐบาลขององค์การสหประชาชาติไปแล้วหรือไม่

Mediocre chocolate strawberry charlotte with exceptionally well brewed Earl Grey. An unexciting bag of Twinings can reach its unusual potential in a right pair of hands, obvious somewhere in the lounge. While only three choices of cakes were offered, no such type of dessert was offered in the First Class lounges when I was in Beijing, Tokyo, Frankfurt, London, Vienna, Boston, New York, San Francisco and Washington DC.

The dishes as well as the tea were served at the seat. The tea set came with a leather tray, and while not precisely matching in concept, the tray had a THAI sign nicely pressed on the edge though cannot be seen clearly here.

ขนมมีอยู่แค่สามอย่าง อาจจะดูน้อยแต่ผมก็ไม่เคยเห็นที่ไหนเสิร์ฟของหวานชั้นดีขนาดนี้ใน First class lounge นะครับ ไม่ว่าจะเป็น Beijing,Tokyo, Frankfurt, London, Vienna, Boston, New York, San Francisco หรือWashington DC.

Moo Yang Jim Jaew (Grilled pork chops with Thai sticky rice) among other dishes was available and nicely presented. Curiously the sign also included the word beef.

Private restroom suites looked more like a hotel corridor for a first time visitor, but all can easily appreciate the extra space and privacy.


หมูย่างจิ้มแจ่วเป็นอีกเมนูนึงครับ เสิร์ฟมาได้สวยหรูดีแต่ทำไมป้ายมีบอกว่าเป็นเนื้อวัวด้วย

บริเวณห้องน้ำ แต่ละห้องแยกออกเป็นส่วนตัวมาก ใครเห็นครั้งแรกอาจนึกว่าเป็นโถงห้องพักโรงแรมนะครับแต่สบายและเป็นส่วนตัวมากๆ

Restroom waiting area appearing to many as a living room couch could easily distracted passengers from a retreat to Royal Orchid Spa, not adjacent but very close to the lounge. All is design to handle a larger traffic of lounge guests.

The service at the lounge and the spa was well coordinated. The waitress at the Royal First lounge asked if I was also interested in the spa service, and presented two options, a short and a long massage. When I opted for the former, she promptly booked the massage; upon arriving at the spa the receptionist already had my name. A legal document was provided for signing before the massage session and I instinctively told myself there will be plenty others to read in Paris and certainly I'm not starting to read one here, at a spa, but a quick glimpse suggests disclaiming statements regarding the masseurs and the guests, but I could be mistaken. I wonder if there had been incidents that called for such formal procedure.


ห้องน้ำดูเหมือนห้องนั่งเล่นมากกว่าครับมีเก้าอี้นวมดูน่านั่งจนบางคนแทบจะลืมไปสปากันเลยทีเดียว สปาอยู่ใกล้นิดเดียวเท่านั้นครับดูท่าทางสามารถให้บริการผู้โดยสารได้มากพอสมควร



บริการที่เลาจน์และสปาก็ประสานกันได้ดีครับ พนักงานที่เลาจน์แจ้งผมว่าผมสามารถใช้บริการคอร์สสปาได้สองแบบคือแบบสั้นและแบบคอร์สยาวครับ ผมเลือกแบบแรกซึ่งเขาก็จองไว้ให้เรียบร้อยทันทีที่ผมเข้าไปถึงสปาในขั้นตอนนี้มีเอกสารทางกฏหมายอะไรสักอย่างให้ผมเซ็นก่อนรับบริการแต่ผมขอไม่อ่านนะครับ เซ็นเลย เพราะตอนไปถึงปารีสผมมีเอกสารแบบนี้รอผมอยู่เป็นตั้งๆแน่ๆ วันนี้ขอไม่วุ่นวายกับมันสักวันแล้วกันครับคงไม่มีอะไรซีเรียสมั้ง แค่นวดแค่นี้เองผมก็สงสัยอยู่นะว่าเคยมีเหตุอะไรที่ให้การบินไทยจำเป็นต้องใช้เอกสารใบนี้มาก่อนไหม

The massage parlor for Royal First passengers were zoned exclusively and had less light than the Royal Silk area, effecting a more dimming and relaxing ambience. The shoulder rub and feet oil massage was performed simultaneously by two polite and professional masseurs with admirable composure, the conversation tone was deliberately soft and relaxing, but their fingers and thumbs were well energized.

ห้องนวดของผู้โดยสาร F มีสัดส่วนแยกไว้ต่างหาก ดูมืดกว่าโซนของ Royal Silk นิดหน่อยพนักงานนวดทำได้ดีมากครับ ทั้งสองคนทำการนวดพร้อมกันไป คนนึงนวดไหล่ อีกคนนวดเท้าแต่การพูดคุย น้ำเสียง ท่วงท่า ทุกอย่างสร้างบรรยากาศที่ผ่อนคลายสอดคล้องกันได้ดีมากๆครับ สร้างความประทับใจให้ผมได้มากทีเดียว

The lounge area at the spa was lightly decorated in a proper sense, and the medal lotus under the television added a creative touch that was not too intruding.

สปาเลาจน์แต่งได้สบายตาดีมากครับ ได้อารมณ์ของความเป็นสปาดี มีการใช้ดอกบัวตกแต่งด้วยทำให้ดูเป็นการตกแต่งที่ลงตัว ไม่มากไม่ประเจิดประเจ้อไป

Unlike the restroom suites at the Royal First lounge, the locker room at the spa was of a typical design of common space, not estranged to regular guests of sports and fitness clubs. But being an international airport welcoming guests from various backgrounds, a suite design would have been impressive.


ห้องล็อคเกอร์เป็นแบบธรรมดา ไม่แปลกไปจากที่ฟิตเนสคลับแต่สำหรับห้องรับรองในสนามบินนานาชาติที่มีแขกหลากหลาย ห้องล็อคเกอร์ส่วนตัวน่าจะสร้างความประทับใจได้ยิ่งขึ้นอีก

The spa staff provided a mini tour of the private spa chambers where full body massage is performed for around an hour. Not every chamber is the same, this one comes with a jacuzzi, however in each hangs a painting by a nationally acclaimed artist.


พนักงานสปาพาผมไปชมห้องสปา ที่ให้บริการนวดเต็มรูปแบบด้วย แต่ละห้องจะมีความแตกต่างกันไปบ้าง บางห้องแบบห้องนี้ก็มีจาคุซซี่แต่ทุกห้องจะมีภาพศิลปะแบบไทยโดยศิลปินแห่งชาติแขวนไว้
